Differences between video formats, which one suits you best?

How many times have you asked yourself what is .AVI or MOV, and what is the difference between them? Why can you play some videos with your usual player and others not?

From Energy Sistem, we are going to try to clarify this thorny issue, so you know what to do the next time you see one of these files and which one suits your needs better.

The most common video formats are AVI, MOV, MP4 and FLV. We will start with the most popular video format: AVI. As you already know, AVI videos have an excellent quality, although their size is usually too large to transfer them easily between devices or download them.

If you want to save or edit a video without losing any detail and with the maximum quality, this is your format. In addition, most devices and players can play AVI videos. However, if you want to share your video with all your friends, this may not be the ideal format, since it will take a long time to send it.

We have all had a MOV video on our computer or mobile device. They offer a great image quality (like AVI files), but their size depends on the codec with which they are encoded. The main drawback of this format is that you need Quicktime to play your videos.

MP4 files are increasingly becoming more popular in the last few years. They should not be mistaken for MP3 files, which are just audio files. MP4 format can play Full HD files with a small size. They do not have the same quality as an AVI or MOV file, but it is a great format if we want to store movies on our tablet or mobile without taking up too much space on the memory.

If we talk about the FLV format, Youtube or Google Video use these files since they have a small size that allows them to load faster and do not interrupt the playback. Although you can also find files with this format, it is very common in the Internet.

This is our brief explanation about the different video files we can find. Would you like to know something else? Leave your comment on this post and we will be glad to help you.
