The Star Wars movies to be released over the next few years
If you were left wanting more Star Wars movies after episodes 7, 8 and 9, then rest easy. At its Star Wars Celebration, Disney has just announced three new movies that will début in cinemas over the next few years. But it seems they will not be a trilogy! Rather, they will be set in three different eras covering the entire history of the saga, from the beginnings of the Jedi through to after the sequels. In fact, one of the new movies will be the continuation of the story of Rey, the main character in the sequels.

So let us give you the lowdown on everything currently known about the new Star Wars movies.

Rey, Jedi Master 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker

After much speculation, and after some fans of the saga denigrated the Star Wars sequel trilogy, Disney has announced that one of the movies in the pipeline will be the story of Rey (Daisy Ridley) after the events of Episode IX. It will be directed by James Mangold ('Logan') and will recount Rey's attempts to rebuild the Jedi Order some 15 years after Palpatine's ultimate defeat in 'The Rise of Skywalker'. One thing we do know is that Rey will now be a fully fledged Jedi Master, trying to bring the ancient order of protectors of the Galaxy back to life.

We do not as yet know who the villain will be. But it will be very interesting to see how the story of the Emperor's granddaughter –the last Jedi standing after Luke joined the Force– plays out.

The 'Filoni-verse' and the Mandalorian spinoffs to culminate in a film

Fans of 'The Mandalorian', 'The Book of Boba Fett', the Star Wars animated series, and everything that has come to be known as the "Filoni-verse" (after its creator, Dave Filoni), are in for a treat. Disney has used the Celebration 2023 event in London to announce that all these plots will end in a film to be directed by Filoni himself, which will close the story of Din and Grogu, Ahsoka, and all the interconnected series. Fans are ecstatic over this bombshell, which has broken social media.

This movie promises to culminate in a grand final battle between the defenders of the New Republic and Grand Admiral Thrawn, the true villain who is pulling the strings to defeat the new Republic and resurrect the Empire. The idea is to follow the concept of 'Avengers: Endgame' and conclude all these stories in a global climatic event. We can't wait to see it!

Dawn of the Jedi

The latest of the announced Star Wars movies (which is not necessarily the last one to be released in cinemas) will be set at a pivotal moment in Star Wars history: the origins of the Jedi Order, some 26 millennia before the events of the original trilogy. An era which has been portrayed in comics and books, but which we have never seen in cinemas. It will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy ('Ms. Marvel') and will narrate the moment when force users are split between light and dark sides, with the birth of the Jedi order and the first fully light-side user. Its director has described this instalment as a "biblical epic".

And if you want to catch up on the Star Wars movies before the new instalments hit the cinemas, here's a guide to the order you should watch the entire saga in. Enjoy!
