If you thought we couldn't see any more new audio features, you were wrong. We've finally got the new aptX technology in Bluetooth headphones. This technology can already be found in the new Energy Sport 3 Bluetooth. This time, our colleague Víctor Fantoba from the Energy Experience Store in Alicante clears up any doubts you may have and lets you learn more about it.
What is aptX technology?
It was developed by the processor manufacturer Qualcomm. Basically, it's a technology that improves the quality of audio transmitted via Bluetooth compared to previous technologies. It's based on a proprietary compression algorithm, which allows music to be sent and played in its original quality, thus avoiding the bottleneck caused by Bluetooth bandwidth. Until now, we were familiar with the SBC codec, but it failed to minimize latency or resolve synchronization issues.
What devices is it compatible with?
As we mentioned at the beginning, aptX technology is now available in Bluetooth headphones. Specifically, in the new Energy Sport 3 Bluetooth headphones . Still, what do we need on our devices like phones or tablets?
First, they must have a Qualcomm processor, since the technology originates from them. However, that doesn't mean all of them include it; the manufacturer must have paid a license to use this technology, and we can verify this in the specifications they include.
Even so, Google has adopted these new aptX codecs in Android 8.0 Oreo to support them on most devices that meet the requirements. However, we'll notice the increased quality as the source becomes higher quality, meaning the music file contains a higher bit rate, such as 16 bits, which is what this codec's technology supports.
This is great news, as all the advances in wireless technology that appear on the market will help us free ourselves from cables and enjoy music more.
