Cooking with Energy Sistem: Poke Bowl

Artículo de blog
We continue with our weekly recipes to the beat of the best music! Our colleague Fernando Cerezo joins us this week with a succulent recipe perfect for early summer. Are you up for trying it?

Without further ado, we give way to our chef:

It seems like summer is approaching. Sunny days with pleasant temperatures are already coming together, and all I can think about is going to the beach. I had a few trips planned for this summer, but like everyone else, I've had to cancel them to be responsible and stay home.

So I've decided to cook a dish from a paradise we'd all love to visit: Hawaii. Many of you have already guessed it just by mentioning the location of the dish—yes, a " Poke Bowl ." It's become very popular in the last two years, and restaurants specializing in this versatile, simple, and very healthy dish have proliferated.
I'm going to tell you what the classic recipe is like, and I encourage you to experiment with different ingredients.

For this recipe, we will need several kitchen utensils:

  • A pot for cooking rice

  • A knife and a cutting board

  • A bowl

As for the ingredients and quantities needed for two people:

  • 1 tuna steak, one and a half fingers thick

  • A glass of jasmine rice

  • Wakame seaweed

  • 1 avocado

  • ½ red onion

  • 1 tomato

  • Sesame seeds

  • Sesame oil

  • Soy sauce

You might see the ingredients and be put off... Where can I get wakame or sesame oil? Don't worry, you can find all the ingredients at Carrefour, Mercadona, or El Corte Inglés.

It's time to travel to Hawaii, and well, to get myself in the mood a bit, I put on my swimsuit, a t-shirt, and the Travel 7 ANC Headphones .
We take off!
First, we wash the rice to remove excess starch, preventing the grains from sticking together once cooked. We add it to the pot and, using the same glass we used to measure the rice, add 1.5 cups of water. I recommend checking the rice preparation instructions on the packaging, as there are some varieties of jasmine rice, and the amount of water may vary.

Make sure the rice is evenly distributed throughout the pot and cook it for 12 minutes over medium-high heat. Once this time has passed, turn off the heat and let it sit for a couple more minutes if you see that there's still a little water left, allowing it to fully absorb.
You might be thinking, I've put on my headphones and am walking around the kitchen without hearing a thing... Well, yes, I'm not hearing anything, but it's from outside, thanks to the ANC. I didn't mention this, but my neighbor is hanging pictures or something... So it's time to mute the hammer and turn up the music. Right now I'm listening to "Come and Get Your Love" by Redbone . I'm sure you've heard it, and it has that vibe that reminds me of vacations, the beach, summer romance...

Let's continue! Remove the rice from the pot and set it aside for 1 hour to cool slightly.

Meanwhile… “Mr Blue Sky” by Electric Light Orchestra will have you moving your head a little to the rhythm, and when that hour of dancing around the living room is up, you can return to the kitchen with rhythm , “You make my Dreams” by Daryl Hall & John Oates .

Let's move on to the star ingredient of this dish: tuna. I chose this fish because it's incredibly flavorful and delicious, but you can also make it with salmon, sea bass, shrimp, and so on. For recipes that include raw fish, like this one, remember to freeze the fish for at least one day to ensure it's optimally consumed.
You also have the option of trying it with grilled meats or just the vegetables. I'm going to make the classic version: cut the tuna steak into cubes slightly smaller than a cherry tomato, place them in an individual-sized bowl, and add 5 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Stir carefully to avoid damaging the tuna cubes, while still ensuring the fish is covered in the sauce. Place it in the refrigerator while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.

Now cut the red onion, avocado, and tomato into smaller cubes than the tuna and set aside.

We're almost done, it's time to start plating. This dish can look very beautiful thanks to the combination of colors of the ingredients. Slowly, but with rhythm, thanks to War's song "Low Rider."

In a separate bowl, make a generous mound of rice, making sure to leave space around the edges for the other ingredients. Add a little onion, avocado, tomato, wakame, and finally the tuna in an orderly manner, making sure to cover the area with the tuna sauce.

For the final touch, use a spoon to add the sauce in which the tuna was marinated over all the ingredients except the white rice, and sprinkle a handful of sesame seeds over all the ingredients.

Perfect, time to try it... I feel like I've traveled straight to Hawaii.
How did it turn out for you?
