'Humans of New York' is the first documentary series created by Mark Zuckerberg's giant. It will be based on 12 half-hour episodes featuring interviews with citizens from 20 countries and will premiere on the Watch TV platform, integrated into the social network itself.
The idea originated in 2013 as a photography project by Brandon Stanton published on a blog about testimonies. Now it's moving to the small screen (of your device) to explore the different lives of city dwellers and those from around the world.
Brandon Stanton is a renowned photographer who caught Facebook's attention that year thanks to the potential of his experience-based content. The social network began working with him and launched a project that resulted in more than 10,000 interviews with New Yorkers.
Later, the work reached twenty different countries such as Mexico, Iraq and the Congo.
That same year, "Humans of New York" was published as a book, and the images garnered some 18 million reactions on Facebook and around 5.7 million on Instagram. Following its success, Facebook went one step further and created its own audiovisual content.
It's the perfect excuse to launch its Watch TV platform. Starting in the coming weeks, fans around the world will be able to watch the series on their mobile devices. Furthermore, this documentary series has the support of Julie Goldman, an Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated producer for "Life, Animated" and "Weiner."
