How to set up a VPN on your Android device

Before explaining how to set up a VPN on your Android device , we'd like to briefly explain what these networks are and what they're used for.

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network . That is, a network that allows a mobile device to connect to the internet securely (encrypted) .

These networks operate using a technology called tunneling , which creates a type of communication "tunnel" between two points, through which data circulates privately . Thanks to a VPN, we can connect our smartphone or tablet to a computer using a username and password in a completely secure manner . This means we can connect to a Wi-Fi network without anyone being able to see the data we send, as it is encrypted.

One of the benefits of VPNs is that they allow us to circumvent the restrictions that some servers impose when we try to access certain content outside our country of origin: for example, accessing the US Play Store and downloading apps while in Spain, or watching Netflix content here, using a VPN with the USA.

VPNs are widely used in business and corporate environments , as they allow employees to connect to the company network and access servers while away from the office.

But beyond the strictly business sphere, at a personal level, VPNs can also be useful for the reasons we've already mentioned.

How to set up a VPN on your Android device?

Go to Settings > More... > VPN . The process may vary slightly depending on your device's make, model, and Android version.

Once you're logged into the VPN, you may be asked to enter a PIN or password to use the credential storage. Simply set up a PIN.

Once you've done this, click the + button (or Add Network) and choose the type of VPN you want to configure. You'll then be asked for some information (Name, Type, Server Address). This information must have been provided to you by your network provider.

Once you've completed these fields, simply click on our VPN to connect . The first time you log in, you'll be asked for a username and password, which you can save on your smartphone for future use.
