We're hearing more and more news about internet security issues: public figures whose accounts have been hacked, personal data shared, bank accounts emptied, scams, and so on. All of this may seem far-fetched to us, but it probably seemed that way to someone who's been through it for the first time. So it doesn't hurt to refresh ourselves with some tips and tricks!
At Energy Sistem We have made a basic but essential compilation of what we find most useful for browsing the Internet safely :
- If you're searching for a website or app about something specific and you come across a page that doesn't sound familiar and asks for unnecessary information to register, be wary. The most useful way to find out whether something is a scam or not is to use a search engine to find reviews about the site you're unsure about . Articles or comments are often created on forums criticizing and reporting sites that try to scam you.
- If you're prompted to enter some personal information, close the window and ignore the message . No one gives you a trip to the other side of the world or a million euros for simply surfing the internet. I wish!
- Activate your most primal instinct. This may seem silly, but if you're suspicious of something or someone on the internet, stay away. When you have a feeling of "this doesn't look good," it's better to be safe than to risk something going wrong .
- Popular browsers like Google Chrome , Firefox , and Safari always have a private browsing option . If you're suspicious or prefer not to have cookies generated every time you search, this option is tailored for you. You can learn how to do it at this WikiHow link.
- If you're using a public computer, remember to log out of all the websites you're logged into . Otherwise, the next person who uses the computer could access your account.
The Internet is a vast and ever-changing environment, so it never hurts to take precautions. Finally, we'd love to hear your tips for protecting your privacy and keeping your data safe online. Feel free to share them in the comments and contribute your part.
See you soon!
